Lowering a coil-spring rear

Trucks and SUVs with rear coil springs, like GM full-size SUVs and the Ram 1500, lower the rear with shorter springs instead of shackles or flip kits. It's one of the cleanest ways to drop the rear 1-4".

Tips

  • Match the rear drop to your front so the truck sits level or with the stance you want.
  • Use drop shocks for rear drops of 2" or more.
  • Bigger drops may need a panhard / track bar to re-center the axle, and bump stops.
  • Air-ride SUVs may need lowering links or an air-to-coil conversion instead.

Rear Lowering Springs FAQ

Will lowering springs fit my air-ride SUV?

Only if the listing says it replaces air suspension. Otherwise use lowering links for the factory air system.

Do I need a track bar after lowering the rear?

For drops over about 2" the axle can shift to one side. An adjustable panhard or track bar re-centers it.

How much do rear lowering springs drop?

Most drop 1-4". Each listing shows the exact drop for your truck.
