Drop coils vs. drop spindles

Drop coils are shorter springs that lower the truck by sitting it lower in its travel. They're affordable and simple to install, but they reduce suspension travel and ride a bit firmer than stock. Drop spindles keep the stock ride but cost more. Many 4-5" front drops use both together.

What to check

  • Engine: spring rates are matched to engine weight (V6, V8, diesel). Pick the right one for an even ride height.
  • Shocks: drop coils reduce travel, so use drop shocks sized for the new height.
  • Bump stops: trim or swap to low-profile bump stops to keep usable travel.
  • Alignment: required after install; bigger drops may need camber correction.

Front Lowering Springs and Drop Coils FAQ

How much do drop coils lower a truck?

Most drop the front 1-3" depending on the spring. Stacked with 2" drop spindles you can reach 4-5".

Do drop coils make the ride stiffer?

Slightly. Less travel means the truck reaches the bump stops sooner. Matching drop shocks keeps it comfortable.

Why do springs list an engine size?

Engine weight changes how much the spring compresses. Choosing the right engine version gets you the advertised drop.
