How drop spindles work

A drop spindle moves the wheel's mounting point higher on the knuckle, so the truck sits lower without changing the springs or suspension travel. That's why spindles ride like stock, and why they're the first choice for daily drivers.

Before you buy

  • Wheel size: most drop spindles need a minimum wheel size (often 17") to clear the brakes and tie rods. Check the listing.
  • Rotor size: some spindles are made for 1" or 1.25" rotors, or require a specific brake setup.
  • Combine for more drop: spindles plus drop coils or control arms give 4-5" or more up front.
  • Track width: some spindles widen the front track slightly; many do not. The listing says which.

Pair spindles with a rear shackle kit or flip kit to finish the drop, and get an alignment after install.

Drop Spindles and Lowering Knuckles FAQ

Do drop spindles affect the ride?

Very little. They keep the factory springs and full suspension travel, so the truck rides much like stock.

Can I keep my stock wheels with drop spindles?

Only if they meet the spindle's minimum wheel size. Many trucks need 17" or larger wheels to clear the brakes.

Do I need new shocks with drop spindles?

Usually not for a spindle-only front drop, since suspension travel doesn't change. Adding drop coils or arms on top of spindles calls for drop shocks.

Are drop spindles safe?

Yes, when they're from a reputable brand and installed correctly. All spindles we sell are forged or cast for street use by established manufacturers.
